Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and smile confidently, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours are preserved. The implants are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a solid foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing bone deterioration when teeth are missing. Dental implants are changing the way people live! People are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life with them.

Evaluation for Dental Implants

If like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations are addressed by Dr. Mir. Your questions and concerns are important to us, and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrudes through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first four to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually integrating with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final bridgework or denture, which will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

After the implant has integrated into the jawbone, the second phase begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar. Dr. Mir can then start making your new teeth. An impression must be taken. Then posts or attachments can be connected to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

At Lenox Hill Prosthodontics, we use advanced technology and the latest in clinical science to ensure that your treatment has predictable and fast results. Start with a consultation. During your initial visit, Dr. Mir will create a personalized treatment plan that fits your specific needs.

Dental Implants can last a lifetime.

The life expectancy of a dental bridge usually is around ten years. Dental implants, on the other hand, can last a great deal longer. The dental implant is manufactured from titanium, and it integrates fully with your jawbone. Titanium implants are biocompatible, meaning that they are nontoxic and the body does not reject it.

Dental Implants prevent bone loss.

If no implant is placed into the gap left after tooth extraction or accidental tooth loss, the underlying bone starts to degenerate and lose volume. In fact, there can be up to 25% bone volume loss in just the first year! This loss continues year after year, causing weakness in the jaws.

Dental Implants keep adjacent teeth in a stable position.

When there is a gap from a missing tooth, neighboring teeth begin to lean towards it. Once the teeth have shifted their position, it will also disrupt how you bite and chew your food. This frequently leads to TMJ, pain, and headaches.

Dental Implants can help prevent gum disease.

The gap of a missing tooth or teeth will often act as a trap for food. Bacteria flourish on the trapped food particles, leading to gum disease, heart disease, and more.

Dental Implants prevent unwanted facial sagging and the appearance of premature aging.

The loss of a tooth or teeth can lead to bone loss. Bone loss in jaws will eventually leads to facial changes. The lower part of the face starts to sag. The distance between the tip of the nose and the chin begins to close.  Wrinkles begin to form around the mouth and the lips cave in and thin. All of these
lead to the person looking older than their actual age.

All of these benefits make dental implants the clear choice for tooth replacement.
